SWIMMING-POOLS


To find swimming pools, you have a few choices for public use. The real pool centre is in the area "Lido Centre". Bus No. 6 stops there. In "Quinta da Magnolýa" there is a perfect park for a family day including 5 - 6 tennis-courts and a playground for children. .

BEACHES


To have a day at the beach, you must go to "Praia Formosa". Bus No. 35 stops there. "Praia" means "beach" in Portuguese. To go to a really long yellow sand beach, we suggest that you spend a day or two at Porto Santo or that you Rent a Car for a visit to other villages. "Porto Moniz" has an excellent natural Volcanic Sea Centre.

PLAY-PARKS


Playgrounds in Funchal may be found (1) near the cable car to Monte, (2) in the park "Santa Catarina" and (3) in the park "Quinta Magnolia". Several others can be found in the larger or small villages. At the " Lido Centre " another tourist complex is planned for the beginning of 2004.

GREEN-PARKS



You will be able to visit many green parks in Funchal. On particularly warm days , it is wonderful to sit down in a park for a while with a coffee or ice cream and have a break surrounded by wonderful flowers and greenery. Here are pictures from the parks " Santa Catarina " and " Municipal Park".

MUSEUM


In Funchal, there are more than 10 museums open for visitors - but don't forget to check their opening hours at the tourist office in Funchal. At the Palàcio de São Lourenco, you can make a guided tour free of charge inside and around the palace. A special place is a part of the ministry called " Residencia do Ministro da Republica " and the charming " Green Room "

GOLF-GREEN


In Madeira you can choose between two Golf Courses for a challenging game - one in Santo da Serra, 7 km from the International Airport of Madeira with an extremely beautiful view over to the east coast and the islands of Desertas and only 1 km from the nearest hotel. The other - Palheiro Golf - is situated near Palheiro Garden, 9 km from Funchal and has a marvellous view over Funchal Bay with a hotel near the green. Both offer a high-quality course. TENNIS-GAME


Sport is something we all like and need. Only a few hotels in Funchal and some others outside Funchal can offer tennis courts. In the park "Quinta Magnolia" you might have a chance for a public booking.

TOBOGGAN-SLEDGES


Up here there is an excellent atmosphere with a park both for younger and older visitors. "Monte" is a well-known garden and for a visit to the "Monte" garden you can choose to go by bus or taxi. There are also cable cars near the bus station in Funchal. Buses No. 20 - 21 - 22. And how do you come back? Why not use "The Toboggan Sledge" which will give you a downward journey with a breathtaking view of Funchal.

Start your day early in the morning with a tour by cable car up to Monte Garden. During your journey by cable car, you will have a panoramic view of the whole of Funchal. The public Farm-Market can be found at Rua D. Carlos 1 - a one-minute walk from the cable cars. Here they sell some traditional souvenirs, flowers, clothes, shoes and famous music such as "Fado" from Portugal and Madeira.To discover the culture of flowers by you own way in Madeira,see link here.

SHOPPING-CENTER


There are many shopping centres in Funchal, both large and small ones - many hidden behind high walls with entrances next to the house body. To really discover all these, you must take your time and walk through the narrow streets. Do not forget to spend a little time in the old town "Zona Velha" where lovely streets and buildings are still in their original state.

Souvenirs in Madeira can be found everywhere. It is more difficult to find the best ones. We can only give you some examples.
